Can Dana White Even Fight?

Dana White would state on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (Episode 327) that before becoming UFC president, he was an amateur Boxer with a record of 13-4 in the Middleweight division. Additionally, he is formerly a Boxing instructor.

Although White may not have the skills of a professional fighter, he has Boxing experience.

In fact, during an interview former World Champion and Professional Boxer, Ishe Smith would recall the days of when Dana White would train Boxers prior to being involved with the UFC.

However, there is no official record of Dana White's amateur career online.

Dana White vs Tito Ortiz in a Boxing Match

The closest that we've been to seeing Dana White actually fight in public is several years ago when White and Ortiz agreed to a boxing match.

It was set to be a 3 round fight, with 10 oz gloves, and headgear.

Although White would train for the boxing fight and even weigh-in, Ortiz would not show up without warning, and the match would be called off.

Elaborating on his training, White would say:

You know what pisses me off the most about that thing? I brought in real guys. I brought in heavyweight guys to spar with me for that thing and I got the living s--t punched out of me for four months getting ready for that fight. Real guys. One of the guys, the main guy I sparred with, is fighting this weekend and he's ranked heavyweight

"Believe me," White said, "I'm not trying to sound like a tough guy and I don't talk about the thing a lot, but I was ready, in great shape and Tito bailed on that thing because Tito knew he was going to get his ass whooped on national television.

Ortiz would explain his side of what happened years later, that Ortiz was told that originally they would split any money made from the bout 50/50.

However, later on Ortiz was told that they could no longer do it, and Ortiz said that if he couldn't make any revenue from it, that he wouldn't do the fight.

Ortiz even mentioned that he didn't even train for the bout due to the revenue conflict.

Why Were They Going to Have a Boxing Match?

White and Ortiz have famously never gotten along for long periods of times, beginning from the days of when White was Ortiz's manager, to even when White was the UFC president, and Ortiz was fighting in the UFC.

Ortiz at one point would wear a shirt that said "Dana White is my *****" to a UFC weigh-in.

White has repeatedly questioned Ortiz's intellect over the years and delivered this quote:

Tito Ortiz is one of the dumbest creatures walking the face of the Earth right now. If you take all living things and put them in a barrel, Tito is the dumbest out of everything.

The Boxing match gave them both a chance to settle their differences, by punching each other in the face for three rounds.
