Why is Chael Sonnen Undefeated?
Well the simple truth is.. he has never lost a fight, much less a round.
The real reason however is that Chael Sonnen was the best trash talker of his generation, famous for saying the most outrageous things with a calm and straight face, with a careful and perfect delivery.
One of the outrageous things that he would say is that he was "Undefeated and Undisputed" despite having 10+ losses on his record by that point.
His perfect delivery of saying this during interviews, and even answering any follow up questions about it with even more outrageous, but slick answers, created something that MMA fans just gobbled up, loved, and most importantly went along with.
Chael Sonnen on How Tapping Works
In one of my favorite videos of all time, Sonnen explains that he didn't realize that he would lose the Silva fight if he tapped.
He went on to elaborate that he thought if he tapped, he would just lose the round, not the fight.
Then it would go to a judge's decision, and he would have won 4 rounds to 1.
Then he finishes off by saying that if he had known that the fight would have been over if he tapped, he would have never tapped.
When you're watching this video, make sure that you take a look at the faces of Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz, as they go from serious, to busting out laughing as Chael explains how he thought tapping worked.
Never Lost a Round
There was some truth to the 'Never Lost a Round' saying, as Chael was notorious for dominating rounds, and fights, until the moment that he suddenly wasn't.
Every round that Chael ever finishes, he wins. The only time that he was ever in trouble enough to lose a round, the fight ends in that very round.
A great example of this was the first Anderson Silva fight.
He dominated the fight, until he was caught in a triangle choke, and was submitted with only a few minutes left in the 5 round bout.
Due to this judges are never required to decide if Chael won or lost that round, the fight is just over.
I Can't Let You Get Close
Sonnen's famous "I can't let you get close" line resurfaces every few years on social media.
This all occurred as Sonnen would do the Ultimate Fighter show alongside Wanderlei Silva.
Sonnen had said plenty of negative things about the country of Brazil in his lead-up to the fight vs Anderson Silva, and Wanderlei had heard all of it, and taken offense to it.
However, Silva dealt with Sonnen by completely ignoring him.
Sonnen would then purposefully try to irritate Silva to get him to engage with him. Silva isn't known for being the calmest fighter, after all his nickname is 'The Axe Murderer'.
Eventually, Sonnen irritated Silva once again to the point where Silva wanted to fight Sonnen as he kept inching closer and closer.
Sonnen would push Silva away and say "I can't let you get close" as they both squared up.
He would then duck underneath Silva's punch and take him down (while mumbling F****** amateur during the takedown).
The best part of all of this? Sonnen did all of this in jeans and flip flops.
Home Invasion on Wanderlei
Listen Wanderlei, I will do a home invasion on you. I will cut the power to your house and the next thing you'll hear is me climbing up your stairs in a pair of night vision goggles I bought in the back of Soldier of Fortune magazine. I'll pick the lock to the master room door, take a picture of you in bed with the Nogueira brothers working on your 'jiu-jitsu'. I'll take said quote unquote photograph, post it at dorksfrombrazil.com, password - not required, username - not required. That, Wanderlei, is how you threaten someone. Dummy.
That Was a Nasty Line by Me
In his press conference with Tito Ortiz, Sonnen delivered a verbal beat down on Ortiz in one line.
Ortiz would say that Sonnen talks well, and that "his mouth has gotten him every fight, big fight that he's had".
Sonnen would respond back saying:
"Tito always says I use my mouth to get opportunities. The only person I know that made money using their mouth is his ex-wife"
Tito would famously respond by saying "Just to correct you, there was never no marriage".
Who was Tito's ex-lover? Jenna Jameson, a former adult film actress.
Chael Sonnen is Still Trolling Today
If you thought 'The Bad Guy' would have simply laid back after retiring from MMA, you couldn't have been more wrong.

His longstanding feud with Jon Jones continues to this day, and Sonnen is so good at getting under Jones's skin that he was blocked through twitter.
Sonnen rejoiced once he noticed that Jones had blocked him, and in typical Bad Guy fashion exclaimed that he was still undefeated, with a screenshot of the block.
Sonnen Goes 5-0 in 1 Night
Recently Chael Sonnen was arrested and cited with five battery misdemeanor charges that were eventually dismissed.
Apparently a group of guys decided to say some things to Sonnen's wife, and 'The Bad Guy' was having none of it and decided to up his win record by 5 in one night.
Still undefeated. Still undisputed. https://t.co/Kys5mqvvr2
